Dental Services for Your Family

The office of Michael Bannister, DDS has been providing healthy smiles to the families of Charleston and Daniel Island for more than 10 years.  Dr. Bannister understands that patients of any age may have certain anxieties when visiting a dentist. We strive to assure patients that going to the dentist can be a gentle and routine experience. Our services for your teeth and gums can actually prevent the need for restorative procedures later in life.

We offer state of the art modern dental services including:

Routine Cleanings & Checkups Every 6 Months

We work together—Dr. Bannister, our staff and you—to preserve the health of your teeth and gums by preventing the potential onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Regular cleanings are an important dental treatment for halting the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis

Fluoride Treatments

Typically done during a routine cleaning procedure, a topical Fluoride treatment helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also can reverse early decay.

Tooth Fillings

Once bacteria have established themselves in the mouth, they will produce acidic by-products that create holes (cavities) in your teeth. The weakened tooth structure and bacterial infection must be removed to prevent the process from progressing and causing further damage. The cavity is then filled with an FDA approved material.

Missing Teeth

Despite our best efforts to save a tooth, sometimes extraction is the only alternative. If this is necessary, we are committed to providing you the most comfortable, pain-free procedure possible.

Factors leading to extraction include:

  • Extensive trauma
  • Substantial tooth decay
  • Badly cracked or broken teeth
  • No one likes the idea of losing a tooth, however there are options we can provide to fill the empty space or replace the tooth, such as:

    • Implants Crowns
    • Dental bridges, which are 3 or more porcelain teeth fused together.

    Periodontics & Gum Therapy

For patients with early to severe periodontal issues, we provide regular treatments to prevent and remove etiologic agents, such as dental plaque and tartar, that cause inflammation to the gum tissue and surrounding bone. Non-surgical procedures that completely cleanse the periodontium work very effectively for individuals suffering from gingivitis (mild gum inflammation) and moderate/severe periodontal disease.
